Dust Bunny
Is your water heater infested with dust bunnies? If so, you may find yourself taking a cold shower.
The Problem: By federal mandate, and for your safety, today’s water heaters are designed with a flame arrestor which is designed to prevent explosions.
The arrestors, though very effective, can become clogged with lint, soot, dander and, yes, dust bunnies which can eventually choke off the air supply to your water heater. When this happens, your water heater will fail to light. Usually, the way you find out is when you suddenly find yourself taking a cold shower.
Prevention:
- Make sure to keep your water heater closet free from dust. Vacuum the closet area any time you vacuum the adjacent room or hall.
- Don’t store your brooms or other cleaning supplies in the water heater closet (this is a good fire prevention habit too!)
- Ask us about burner cleaning as part of our annual service program. Besides clearing out the dust bunnies, we’ll complete a comprehensive health and safety check list to help make sure your plumbing system is safe, convenient and reliable.
